Wireline Spear

Downhole Tool

Product Overview

The Wireline Spear is a dedicated wireline and broken logging cable salvage retrieval fishing spear specially developed for coiled tubing downhole workover fishing operations of recovering lost or broken wireline, logging cable assemblies.

This wireline retrieval spear adopts an advanced one-piece integral solid monolithic structural design, eliminating split assembly seams, with outstanding overall structural rigidity and bending impact resistance, capable of enduring repeated hooking and upward pulling loads during wireline salvage fishing construction. The upper end of the wireline spear is machined with standard box-up female connection thread for quick and reliable threaded assembly with the bottom end of coiled tubing string. A solid cylindrical central prong extends straight downward from the middle main body of the spear, multiple groups of pointed reverse barbs are symmetrically welded on both sides of the central prong to form stable catching hook structures; when the spear contacts the looped end of broken downhole wireline or cable during running-in operation, the sharp reverse barbs can reliably hook and lock the wireline loop, preventing wireline slipping off during subsequent upward pulling fishing process.

This wireline spear provides two optional core structural configurations to adapt to variable downhole well trajectory conditions: straight central axle version and bent central axle version. The straight axle wireline spear is applicable to vertical straight borehole sections for regular wireline salvage operations; the bent axle wireline spear features a certain bending angle on the central prong, which can adapt to deviated inclined well borehole trajectories and offset fishing positions, realizing effective contact and hooking of broken wireline loop ends in inclined well sections.

The Wireline Spear has no complex internal movable components, spring assemblies or differential pressure release mechanisms, with extremely low wellsite operation threshold and maintenance cost; construction crews only need to run the wireline spear down to contact the looped end of broken wireline/cable and apply upward pull load to complete wireline hooking and grabbing work, without additional auxiliary operation steps.

The Wireline Spear is widely applicable to all coiled tubing downhole workover construction scenarios involving salvage recovery of lost or broken wireline, logging cable assemblies, including broken electric logging cables, perforating operation wirelines, downhole monitoring signal cables and other wireline-type downhole junk components.

The standardized product lineup covers outer diameter sizes ranging from 1-11/16" to 2-7/8", with matched fixed closed make-up length specifications, and provides two optional structural types: straight central axle and bent central axle. The product is equipped with standard 1"AMMT, 1-1/2"AMMT and 2-3/8"PAC bottom connection threads for universal compatibility with mainstream coiled tubing connectors and other downhole fishing workover service tools. Custom outer diameter, central prong bending angle (bent axle version) and barb quantity specification customization are available upon customer technical drawing submission.

Core Features & Advantages

One-Piece Integrated Solid Monolithic Structural Design: The entire wireline spear is machined from single solid alloy steel blank into one-piece integral body, no split assembly seams or intermediate connecting parts, outstanding overall structural rigidity and bending impact resistance, capable of enduring repeated hooking, pulling and collision loads during downhole wireline salvage fishing operations, resistant to long-term completion fluid and formation circulating fluid erosion, effectively extending service life and reducing on-site mechanical failure risks caused by assembly seam loosening.

Central Downward Cylindrical Prong with Symmetric Welded Reverse Pointed Barbs: A solid cylindrical central prong extends straight downward from the middle body, multiple groups of sharp reverse hook-shaped barbs are symmetrically full-welded on both sides of the central prong; the reverse barb geometric profile is optimized to reliably hook and lock the looped end of broken wireline or logging cable, effectively preventing wireline slipping off during high-tension upward pulling fishing process, ensuring stable wireline salvage grabbing success rate.

Dual Optional Structural Configurations: Two complete structural versions of straight central axle and bent central axle are provided for independent selection, fully matching different downhole borehole trajectory construction demands: straight axle model adapts to vertical straight well borehole sections for conventional regular wireline salvage operations; bent axle model has fixed bending angle on central prong, which can enter deviated inclined well borehole sections and accurately contact offset broken wireline loop ends in inclined well trajectory fishing positions, expanding applicable downhole working condition range.

Simple Low-Threshold Wellsite Operation Logic: The wireline spear has no complex internal movable friction components, spring energy storage assemblies or differential pressure release mechanisms, the operation flow is extremely simplified: run the spear down along the wellbore until the central prong contacts the looped end of broken wireline/cable, apply upward pull load on coiled tubing string, the reverse barbs will automatically hook and lock the wireline loop to complete salvage grabbing work, no additional auxiliary operation steps such as drop ball delivery or shear pin impact jarring are needed, shortening wellsite operation time and reducing human error risks.

Ultra-Low Routine Maintenance Design: The one-piece integral solid body eliminates vulnerable split assembly movable parts, after each wireline salvage fishing operation, only simple surface completion fluid residue cleaning and reverse barb wear degree visual inspection are required, no complex disassembly, internal part replacement or spring preload adjustment maintenance procedures, greatly reducing daily maintenance labor and spare parts inventory cost.

Full Outer Diameter Size Compatibility & Dual Axle Style Matching: Standard product series covers 1-11/16", 2-1/8" and 2-7/8" outer diameter specifications, each OD size supports both straight central axle and bent central axle structural versions for free matching selection, fully compatible with global mainstream medium-size coiled tubing assemblies for all broken wireline/logging cable salvage recovery intervention demands.

Multi-Type Standard Thread Compatibility: All product models are equipped with universal 1"AMMT, 1-1/2"AMMT and 2-3/8"PAC bottom connection threads, realizing seamless assembly with global mainstream coiled tubing bottom-hole assemblies and other supporting downhole fishing workover tools without extra conversion subs.

Precision CNC High-Strength Alloy Steel Manufacturing: Adopts precision CNC full-body machining of high-strength wear-resistant alloy steel blank, integral one-piece forming process, symmetric full penetration welding of reverse barbs and central prong, featuring outstanding circulating fluid erosion resistance, repeated hooking-pulling load fatigue resistance and structural stability, extending long-term continuous broken wireline/logging cable salvage retrieval service life for downhole coiled tubing workover operations.
